Aang- The Last Airbender. Charcter review

Who is Aang? Aang is a charcter from the new film, The last Airbender, he is a monk/ninja boy who can used the natural enviroment in a such away to defeat the bad guys. I have chosen him because he i very simular to the image and feel we are trying to give to are charcter. The way he fights looks and the message he shows are what we hope to achieve with are ninja charcter.

Mise-en-scene- His costume is different to everyone elses in the scene. This makes him stand out as a main chacter. Also his costume is what you would expect a monk/ ninja fighter to wear but with an unsterotypically paige colour. In this clip he has no props but this is because he is magic. Our charcter we will be more based to the sterotpical ninja image with a sword. In this clip he is in a big dramatic battle. This appears as if it is in a big built up monk land. This is a stereotpical setting. It is where you would expect them to live, attack or defend.

Editing- In this scene thier is very few cuts it is really one big long pan but this is used so you can enphisizes on he cool ninja fighting moves and the way he flips. This is because it attracts the younger audience they will be drawn in the by this they will see the charcter as a roll model want to be him and do what he does. This is a image we want for our charcter. There is good use of slow motion this is again used to show off his moves. Special effects used with the ice and water this is used to add to the magical feel and show his power. Lighting is dull this is because it is a fight scene it makes it seem more dramatic and builds tension. We could use this in our opening.

Sound- Non diegetic music, the music is quick but not that facey it is mytiscal, i assioate the music with a old fashioned knight in shinning armer battle. but because the music has a bit more beat it work for the fight scence and the monk. We could use this type of music for our opening. Diegeic sound, you can hear him breathing this makes it so you can feel the effort he is putting it; it makes it so you feel there you feel the action. We could use this to add action to our opening.

Camera shot and angles- It is one long pan, but uses lots of zooms in and out. this so you can feel the action. It feels like you are there moving along side him avoiding things. It makes you feel like you are there. This could be used to make our audience engage in our opening. zooming in also makes it so you can focus on the cool tricks he does because that is mainly what the younger audience want to see.

Individual post

Actors- I will be playing the part of the ninja. The ninja is the main charcter, he requires full costume. Their are not many line or facal expressions needed, mainly running and jumping over things in a ninja way. Jolyon will be playing the part of the wizard. The wizard is not as big a part and is only introduced in the end of the sequence. The wizard also needs to be in full costume. The wizard again only as one line but needs more facal expressions as the sequence has a close up of his face.
Camera man- Jake will be camera man. He will do all the filming, this includes all the panning, zoom in and out, over shoulder etc shots. His roll will to be that we get the effect and feel we are looking for in that shot.
Props- I will be incharge of the ninja's props, meaning the sword. Jolyon will be incharge of wizards props meaning his sraff.
Costume- I will be incharge of making sure the ninja is wearing all black, this could be done by making sure someone bring in clothes to fill this charcters roll. The clothing could be brought in by anyone we will all contribute but it is my job to organise. The same applies for jolyon but with the wizards costume.
Location- The location will be the small forest at the back of longroad. we will no permison other than by are teacher to go there as it is on college grounds. But we need to make sure the area is safe and find the best places within the area to get the best quality shots.
Editing- we will all be ending the film, talking about shot duration, colour and the final look of the opening of our childrens film.

Individual Blog

in our film, me and Alex will be the actors and Jake will be the cameraman. Alex will have a plastic sword for a prop that he will be responsible for and use in the opening and we brought it in ahead of time so that we will have it on the day we start filming, but this sword will not be used for any actual fighting, as this is not something that should be seen in a typical action children's film opening.
Alex will wear a black jacket, black trousers and a black t-shirt as these are the sort of clothes that a typical ninja from a film would wear. I will be wearing a blue robe and I will be using a wizard staff, and to ensure that we have the staff ready for me to use on the day of filming, we brought this in earlier than that day so that it will be available to use on that day.
We will be filming in the forest near Long Road and we do not need special permission to be there, but just to make sure we double-checked with our teacher to make sure it was ok for us to go there to do our filming.

Individual Evaluation

in our group alex and Jolyon are going to be acting, alex playing the ninja wearing all black like a typical ninja so the children can relate to the characters easily and make it less confusing. He will have an ninja sword to add to the mystery. Jolyon will be acting as the wizard wearing a blue robe conform to the stereotypical wizard and give Jolyon the extra magical atmosphere when he is present, also he is going to have a magical staff so the children can easily relate as they would be used to be seeing wizards with robes and staffs. i will be the filmer i will be using a tripod to catch the action and make the filming more steady. also having a tripod means we can do "pan shots" which we will be using very often because then we can catch all the action of the ninja, and we z alex will be responsable for bringing in the ninja costume and the samuri sword, we made sure of this by bringing it in before the lesson starts just incase he forgets it. jolyon will be in charge of bringing in the wizards robe and the magical staff also we made sure of this by bringing it in a lesson early just to make sure he doesn't forget it. we will be filming in the forest on the school grounds so we will not need to have permission but we have double checked by asking our teach if we can.

Mise-en-scene research

CU_ninja_uniformcostumes- the costumes for are main character in are opening sequence will be all black clothing and a black scarf over the characters face. This is because ninja's conventionally where it will stick the stereotype, it will show the children clearly the feel and what the film will be about. the costume also shows the mysterious feel. children will instantly relate to the ninja's costume recognizing and have a feeling of what the film will be about. also for the wizard he will be wearing a blue robe to make him look more wizard like, this will help children relate. so they get a magical sense yet to happen. it also sticks with the magical action conventions, and wizards stereotypically wear robes.

location- the location we are going to be using for the majority of our opening sequence will be the forest on the school grounds. we feel that the forest will be an  appropriate  place to film a children's film opening sequence because a forest is a place a lot of children like to go and play. the forest gives a free feeling to the children because it's a place where they can explore and get away from the real world. also the forest will be suitable for ninja's to be in because ninja's are not situated in the town or city they prefer to situate somewhere more rural and where does not have many people.forest-1
props- one of the props we will be using is a sword. we will use a sword because it is the stereotypical weapon of a ninja sticking to the stereotype. it also makes it more easier recognizable to children, the can get a sense that there will be action it will be exciting, makes the want one and they think its "cool".  also in our children's film opening sequence we will be using a "magical staff" for the wizard  to give the sequences an magical effect and feeling. we have given our opening sequence a magical atmosphere because children think that is it very interesting.
samuraiandsword1735
lighting- the lighting we will be using is mainly natural light as we will be working outside, we are aiming to get a gloomy affect to add to the magical, mysterious action feeling. children will be able to relate to this because this is what they expect from other films of the same genre.
